NFL success starts at the top with the right combination of head coach & general manager working together to build, develop, & strengthen their team. Think of this relationship like one you might see in a restaurant, with the general manager playing the role of restaurant supervisor & the head coach playing the role of executive chef. Superior general managers give their head coaches the right ingredients (players, resources, & contracts) in order for their chef to prepare gourmet meals (winning football teams). The supervisor & chef depend on each other to do their jobs, but there are times where the chef will be tasked with creating quality meals from mediocre ingredients. This is why having the right HC is so important. Without further ado, here are my top 10 head coaches based on pedigree, team record (last 3 seasons), & team outlook.
1. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots (30-18)
Let’s be honest, is there anybody who’s surprised by Bill Belichick’s ranking here? His pedigree speaks for itself, as he’s an all-time great amongst head coaches. He’s 6th in wins over the past 3 years, and he’s armed with a reloaded roster this year bolstered by the additions of several veteran free agents. There is some question as to how long he will continue coaching given that he’s 69 years old, but these Patriots are set to rebound in a big way this year.
2. Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs (38-10)
